City guide: Singapore

Has is a DJ/Producer from Singapore, who is also the Asia Pacific Music Director for W Hotels. His profession makes him the perfect person to give us some tips on the throbbing nightlife in Singapore.

What kind of music are you a fan of, and what are some of the best shows you've been to?

Soul, funk, jazz & underground music. Stevie Wonder & Buena Vista Social Club are my main highlights live.

What are your favourite clubs in Singapore and why?

Kilo & Kyo at the moment as they have interesting underground programming every week. Different than the typical club night.

What is the nightlife like in Singapore? Is there something to do every night of the week?

It is buzzing with various events around the island. There is always something for everyone. The party normally starts during the midweek, but we do have plenty of speak-easies and specialty cocktail bars now, like Manhattan and Copper, for your weekday drinks.

What are some local tips for party-goers who are visiting Singapore?

  • Go early to avoid the queue.
  • Club hop if you have no specific destination to go to.

What about the weekend party scene? What else is there other than the night clubs?

The beach and the zoo - apparently the Night Safari is pretty awesome. Head to Sentosa on Sundays if it's all sunny, especially at Tanjong Beach Club.

Where do you go for chill drinks?

I would head to FOC, Hong Kong 28 & Lucha Loco!

What's lacking in Singapore's nightlife and entertainment that you think would be great to have?

More intimate and well curated clubs. More venues with live acts to support the local music scene.

What about post-party food? Where do you go for late-night grub?

Too many options but I'll stick to the good old Teochew porridge on Keong Saik Road.

You've probably played at some crazy parties yourself - where was the most crazy venue you've played at?

Berlin! In a club called Chalet.

What are some places on your bucket list that you'd love to play at?

Panorama Bar & Awakenings
