Amelia manages the beauty section at Harper's BAZAAR Singapore, and has a soft spot for fashion and travel. She thinks she spends way too much time shopping online, scouting out the best travel deals and dreaming about new places to visit.
What kind of traveller are you?
I would say that I’m a mix of a laidback traveller, but I’m also a planner. So I guess you could call me a laidback planner.
I say this because I'm always the one booking air tickets, hotels and tours if needed. I do my research before I travel, so that I’ll have a list of must-visit places that include food, shopping, as well as some hidden gems like interesting laneways bursting with culture.
However, I’m also pretty spontaneous so I make it a point to leave pockets of time to new adventures as well as to accommodate any new plans that may pop up.
What are your favourite destinations to date and why?
Turkey, Hong Kong, Paris, and Melbourne!
What are some of your must do's when you travel?
I like being in the know of the latest trends, and I absolutely have to eat and shop at all the best places. Since word of mouth is usually the best form of advertising, I make sure to ask my friends or scour websites for the latest places to hit up. I'll usually find that one place that serves up a good flat white with bonus free Wi-Fi.
If I'm lucky enough to be staying somewhere with a nice bathroom, a long bubble bath is in order. Apart from that, I find that each country is unique and I'm happy to adapt to the rhythm of things there.
What are your five travel essentials?
- A hat (or four)
- My iPhone- that is also my camera and iPod.
- Cle de Peau Beaute or SK-II facial masks
- A good book/magazine
- Lip balm
If there was one celebrity's vacation home you would like to live in for a week, whose would it be, and why?
George Clooney's Lake Como villa or Taylor Swift's Rhode Island home. I love anything with the view of the oceans, sea and lake. I want to spend my mornings having breakfast on the balcony while looking out at the blue waters.
