Is this only for Crunch fitness in NY?
Nope! We’re happy to report that it’s for any Crunch location!
Commit to walking 10,000 steps per day (that’s 1/2 an hour). Walking is hugely beneficial to your health and can give you 90% of the benefits of an extremely hard workout with little of the pain.
If you are extremely out of shape, start slowly with 5-10 minute walks and gradually increase the time of your walks.
Spend 10-15 minutes a day stretching your body, it makes a huge difference in flexibility. And when you’re flexible, you’re less likely to injure yourself!
Build in scaffolding to help you with your exercise program. My husband swims early in the morning, so a few times a week I ask him to drop me at Central Park on his way to the pool, and once there, it’s easy to run! Before the week begins, my workout partner and I plan the weekly workouts around the upcoming forecast. Both those things help immensely.
Invest in your physical fitness with both your money and time-as much as feasible for you. Being physically fit pays for itself in a multitude of ways. It actually ends up COST EFFECTIVE! Since committing to a healthy lifestyle, and letting almost nothing get in the way of working out, the increased self confidence has drastically enhanced my marriage, parenting, and other interpersonal relationships. No need for paying for a therapist! I don’t get sick as much, so less time off from work, less money spent on medications.
I am more energetic, so I don’t need to hire people to do work for me, since I have the energy to do it myself!
The feeling of wellbeing when you work out carries over into how you live your life-in a state of happiness and empowerment.
Stop complaining and just freakin do it!
I wrote a whole post yesterday about this tip, but the short version is: remember that you are a work in progress, and be proud of that! If your goal was to lose 10 pounds and you have currently gained 1 pound, there are still 11.5 months in which to now lose 11 pounds. If your goal was to go to the gym every day and you haven’t started doing that, there’s plenty of time to start. Maybe in January your goal should be to go to the gym once a week, then February is twice a week, etc. Just don’t beat yourself up for not succeeding right away – big changes take time!
Full post (where I wrote this much more eloquently) is here: http://www.50by25.com/2012/01/im-work-in-progress-and-proud-of-it.html
I have to say I’m not a gym goer, simply don’t like it, But I build exercise into my daily routine by walking everywhere, taking the stairs, (running)and parking as far from the store etc when i have to drive. I garden in the summer and shovel the snow mindfully.
And finally………….for burning calories, having fun and maintaining “heart” health, sex with your honey can’t be beat.
best wishes to you all in 2012

Exercise and diet are key but one more thing is needed and that is a good nights sleep. We hurt our bodies when we only sleep 4-6 hours a night. Our bodies need to get enough sleep so all that work we put into it can take a deep effect.
So add that 3rd element to your strategy:
DIET, EXERCISE AND SLEEP in 2012!
Sweet dreams! :-)
Throw the scale away! Judge your fitness level from the way your clothes fit and your energy level.
Try to do at least a 20-30 minute aerobic workout (bike, run, jog, etc) 3 times a week!
Grab a Tony Horton DVD (P90X, Insanity, P90X2). You don’t really have an excuse when you can work out in your apartment. Like Morrison says, just push play! Though these workouts take an hour or so.
You’ll have the added bonus of being able to make fun of Tony Horton’s one liners.
Change into your gym clothes BEFORE you leave the office. It helps with the “ahhh but I’d rather go home” excuse.
Don’t worry! Be happy as you work out!
You never regret working out, but you usually regret not working out. Forget regret and work out!
You can never drink too much water. It not only aids you internally and helps your skin look awesome it’s super essential pre and post workout to hydrate.
20 beers on a Friday does not make up for a beer-free week! Despite what your ‘brain’ tells you after the first few…
Aw man…are you sure?
one simple … get in shape .. it’s to WALK more…. i think Walking is one of the best workout for your body!…
Remove the word ‘can’t’ from your vocabulary. Remind yourself that if you ‘can’t’ do something, it is only because you have to keep practicing to get there. Or if you ‘can’t’ work out today, it is because you are making something else a bigger priority. Don’t let yourself live off of negativity, or you won’t get anywhere.
My fitness tip is: To keep up with an exercise plan, don’t keep the same routine.. Take it outside the gym to biking, kayaking, swimming, and jump roping. You’ll still be able to work your arms & get your cardio in, without a boring routine..
And for someone who has never been a gym-goer, I realize I need to get in shape for my best friend’s wedding!
Wash your face before hitting the gym. It gets rid of all the city grime that you picked up during the day and prevents it from getting into your pores once you start sweating.
That is totally our kind of tip.
Push play, for 30 minutes a day.
